Introducing Miaraq, Warren Jones

Miaraq, Warren Jones is a philosopher, Marine Corp veteran, fisherman, husband and father. Warren is Alaska Native, with Gwich’in, Yup’ik and Iñupiaq ancestors. A lifelong Alaskan, Warren was born in Bethel and raised in Nome and Palmer. He has traveled the state working the oil fields, canneries and fishing boats, and enjoying the hospitality, cultures, history and perspectives of Alaska’s Indigenous and rural communities.

Warren served in the Marine Corps from 2002 to 2006, seeing active service in Iraq and humanitarian efforts in support of Operation Unified Assistance as part of 13th and 15th Marine Expeditionary Units. After returning to civilian life, Warren studied Political Science at university and later worked with the First Alaskans Institute and Inuit Circumpolar Council.

In addition to hosting Arctica, Warren’s work includes writing, poetry, Indigenous philosophy and consulting, and commentary on culture and politics. Warren and his wife Sacha (Tiktok | Instagram) live in Anchorage on Dena’ina land with their four kids, where they enjoy city life, as well as the easy access to the bounty and beauty the road system has to offer.
